Florida Laws and Info:
If you take the time to learn the laws, you'll be better equipped to avoid potential scams. The state licensing board has specific laws governing the conduct of talent agencies. Commercial agencies that are SAG-franchised, also have rules they must follow, or be in violation of the Screen Actor's Guild code of conduct. Of course, there are always photographers, managers and other unscrupulous people that exist in the world, and on the Net. Although model searches and modeling/charm schools can be helpful, depending on one's circumstances, they are not necessary to enter the modeling profession. Fashion modeling agencies usually like to see a couple snapshots of potential models, it is never a requirement to have professional pictures or a portfolio. Commercial modeling agencies like to see comp cards, but also do not require a portfolio. If you are unsure what an agency would like to see for consideration, you can phone them and ask. Although usually quite busy, they are used to answering questions from those looking to get into the modeling industry, and are often very helpful. Please remember: an agent takes a percentage (usually 10-20%) off of work they book for you. You do not pay them to find you work. If an agency tells you that you need to pay a "registration fee," that is illegal in FL. They also cannot require you to subscribe to, purchase, or attend any publication, postcard service, advertisement, resume service, photography service, school, acting school, workshop, acting workshop, or buy video or audio tapes. That is also illegal in the state of Florida. If you run across someone who does this, please report them. There are enough scams already in existence. Check in with the Florida Statutes, Ch 468, part VII

Final Thoughts/Advice......
I dont claim to know it all and I'm still learning this business but the best advice I could give any model is:
1. Although TFP is important for building a Portfolio dont get stuck in what I call the "TFP RUT". Agencies/Management want quality Comp Cards/Headshots and dont care how many online Portfolios you have. Yes it wil cost you some $ but think of it as an investment for yourself. After all you are promoting your Modeling skills so try to find the best Photographer/Agency that could help you achieve this important goal.
2. Always check out any Agency before you agree to work with them. There are many SCAM ones out there who exist to use new Models and steal your money and dreams!. Be careful of online Modeling sites that also charge you to find you castings. Many of them are scams also and you will waste time and money hoping that they find you work.
3. Do your homework before agreeing to book a shoot with any Photographer. Many so called Photographers are just "guys with cameras" who want to shoot sexy images and they will probably sell them to online sites or for their own personal gain. Try to contact Models that are on their Portfolio, they should have links and if they dont move on to the next Photographer that you may want to work with.
4. Try to be patient with finding work/agencies, it all takes time and hard work does pay off in the end. Research is vital to locating one that will work with you and help to promote your skills. Some Agencies just want certain people so dont get discouraged if you are not what they are looking for.
5. Eat right;exercise and get plenty of rest. Modeling is not just looking pretty for the camera. Preperation can make you look and feel better and of course it will show in your images.
6. Have fun!!............life is too short to worry about everything, just be careful and show the world what you have inside you!!
7. Last but not least.......Bring an escort to all TFP shoots. You cant be too careful and many Photographers dont care if you do. Just make sure the person you choose wont interupt the shoot and upset the flow of the interaction between you and the Photographer.
